Asia-Pacific Electricity Supply (2024)

Asia-Pacific generates an estimated 16,229 TWh of electricity in 2024, with coal contributing the majority at 54.8%. Renewables follow at 29.5%, showing strong growth in wind and solar. Gas accounts for 9.5%, while nuclear makes up 5.1%. Other non-renewables represent just 1.2% of the region’s power mix. The dominance of coal remains a key feature, although clean energy expansion is accelerating.

Electricity Supply and TWh

Electricity supply is the total energy generated for use in homes, businesses, and industries. It is measured in terawatt-hours (TWh), with 1 TWh equaling one trillion watt-hours. Different sources—coal, gas, nuclear, and renewables—contribute to the mix, varying by region and policy.
