Brazil Energy Profile 2025: Electricity Mix
Brazil's electricity system remained overwhelmingly renewable in 2025, with renewables supplying 86.6% of total generation. Hydropower dominated the mix at 51.8%, making it by far the country's largest source of electricity.
Wind and solar also played major roles, contributing 15.7% and 11.8% respectively. Together with bioenergy, these sources give Brazil one of the most renewable electricity mixes among the world's major economies.
Fossil fuels accounted for 11.3% of generation, led by natural gas at 7.3%, while nuclear energy contributed a further 2.1% to the electricity mix.
