China Energy Profile 2024: Electricity Mix

🔥 Fossil Fuels
Fossil fuels made up 62.0% of China’s electricity generation in 2024, with coal alone contributing the majority at 58.2%. Natural gas (3.0%) and other fossil sources (0.8%) added smaller shares.

🌍 Renewables
Renewables accounted for 33.6% of electricity generation. Hydropower led with 13.5%, followed by wind (9.8%) and solar (8.3%). Bioenergy contributed 2%.

⚛️ Nuclear Energy
Nuclear energy made up 4.4% of China’s generation. With over 20 reactors under construction and dozens more planned, the sector is growing as part of China's long-term energy security and decarbonization plans.
