Energy Access

Energy access is fundamental to social and economic development. Yet over 700 million people still lack electricity, and billions more rely on polluting fuels for cooking. Expanding clean, affordable energy supports health, education, and livelihoods.

Rural Electrification & Mini-Grids
Off-grid and mini-grid solutions using solar, wind, or micro-hydro power can bring electricity to remote communities. These systems are often quicker and cheaper to deploy than traditional grid extensions.

Economic & Social Impacts
Access to energy improves healthcare, supports education, and boosts productivity. Clean cooking technologies and electric lighting reduce health risks and improve quality of life for households and communities.

Barriers & Progress
Cost, financing, and weak infrastructure remain challenges. But global efforts like SDG7 and clean energy funds are helping expand access, especially in sub-Saharan Africa and parts of Asia.
