France Energy Profile 2025: Electricity Mix

France continued to operate one of the world's most nuclear-focused electricity systems in 2025. Nuclear energy supplied 68.8% of generation, providing the vast majority of the country's electricity and helping maintain one of the lowest-carbon power sectors among major economies.

Renewables accounted for 26.1% of generation, led by hydropower (10.4%), wind (8.2%), and solar (5.6%). These sources complement the nuclear fleet and provide additional low-carbon electricity throughout the year.

Fossil fuels represented just 5.2% of electricity generation, reflecting France's limited reliance on coal and natural gas compared with many other industrialized nations.
