Germany Energy Profile 2024: Electricity Mix
🔥 Fossil Fuels
Fossil fuels provided 42.6% of electricity in Germany. Coal remained significant at 21.9%, especially in eastern states. Natural gas made up 16.6%, often used in cogeneration. Other fossil sources added 4.1%.
🌍 Renewables
Renewables were the largest contributor at 57.4%. Wind led with 28%, solar followed at 14.9%, and bioenergy contributed 9.6%. Hydropower made up 4.9%, and other renewables negligible.
⚛️ Nuclear Energy
Germany produced 0% of electricity from nuclear power in 2024. All reactors were shut down by 2023, completing the Energiewende nuclear phase-out.
