Germany Energy Profile 2025: Electricity Mix

Germany generated the majority of its electricity from renewable sources in 2025, with renewables reaching 59.1% of total generation. Wind power was the country's largest electricity source at 27.2%, supported by strong contributions from solar energy (17.9%) and bioenergy (10.1%).

Fossil fuels accounted for 40.9% of generation, with coal providing 20.6% and natural gas contributing 16.5%. While renewable capacity continues to expand, conventional power stations remain an important part of the electricity system during periods of lower renewable output.

Following the closure of its final reactors, nuclear energy no longer contributes to Germany's electricity generation mix, making the country unique among major industrial economies.
