Global Energy Profile 2024: Electricity Mix

🔥 Fossil Fuels
Fossil fuels continued to dominate global electricity generation in 2024, supplying 59.1% overall. Coal made up the largest share at 34.3%, followed by natural gas at 22.00%. Other fossil sources, including oil, contributed 2.8%.

🌍 Renewables
Renewables made up 32% of total global electricity. Hydropower led with 14.30%, followed by wind at 8.1% and solar at 6.9%. Bioenergy contributed 2.3%, and other renewables such as geothermal and marine added 0.4%.

⚛️ Nuclear Energy
Nuclear energy supplied 8.6% of global electricity, with major contributions from the U.S., China, France, and Russia. It remains a stable low-carbon energy source amid rising demand.
