⚡ AI's Growing Demand for Energy, Water and Land
A new UN University report warns that AI's resource footprint is expanding rapidly. By 2030, AI-related water consumption could match the needs of 1.3 billion people, while electricity demand associated with AI systems could triple, equivalent to the power needs of hundreds of millions of people.
🚗 EVs Continue Their Rapid Rise
Electric vehicles accounted for just 4% of global car sales in 2020, but reached 25% in 2025. Their market share is expected to approach 30% this year, and could reach around half of all global vehicle sales by 2035 even without additional policy support.
🌍 Africa Advances Major Gas Export Corridor
Nigeria, Niger, and Algeria have begun construction of a 4,128-kilometre natural gas pipeline designed to transport up to 30 billion cubic metres of gas annually. If completed, it would become one of Africa's largest energy infrastructure projects and strengthen gas exports to Europe.
☀️ India Prepares Massive Battery Storage Deployment
Around 236 GW of battery storage projects are reportedly ready for deployment at India's renewable energy pooling stations. The systems would help reduce renewable energy curtailment while providing electricity during peak demand periods at competitive costs.
☢️ Uranium Production Remains Highly Concentrated
Kazakhstan continues to dominate global uranium production, supported by large low-cost reserves and state-backed development. Meanwhile, U.S. uranium output is recovering after years of decline as countries place renewed focus on nuclear energy and fuel security.
