India Energy Profile 2024: Electricity Mix

🔥 Fossil Fuels
Fossil fuels remained the backbone of India’s power generation in 2024, accounting for 77.7%. Coal was by far the largest source at 74.8%, with natural gas providing 2.8%. Other fossil sources, including oil, added 0.2%.

🌍 Renewables
Renewables supplied 19.6% of total electricity. Hydropower led with 7.7%, followed by solar at 6.7% and wind at 4%. Bioenergy contributed 1.1%, mostly from agricultural waste.

⚛️ Nuclear
Nuclear power made up 2.7% of India’s electricity, generated by a growing fleet of domestic and foreign-designed reactors.
