Italy Energy Profile 2024: Electricity Mix

🔥 Fossil Fuels
Fossil fuels generated 50.7% of Italy’s electricity in 2024. Natural gas was by far the largest contributor at 44%, while coal made up just 1.8%, with the remainder from other fossil sources.

🌍 Renewables
Renewables supplied 49.3% of Italy’s electricity. Hydropower led the way at 19.2%, followed by solar at 13.5% and wind at 8.45%. Bioenergy contributed 6.03%, reflecting a diverse and mature renewable energy mix.

⚛️ Nuclear Energy
Italy had no nuclear power in 2024, consistent with its long-standing national energy policy and public opposition to nuclear development.
