Nigeria Energy Profile 2025: Electricity Mix
Nigeria's electricity generation in 2025 relied primarily on natural gas, with fossil fuels supplying 68.7% of total generation. Gas alone accounted for 68.7% of the country's electricity, making it by far the dominant source of power.
Renewables contributed 31.3% of electricity generation, almost entirely from hydropower, which provided 30.9% of the mix. Solar and bioenergy made only small contributions but are expected to play a growing role as investment in renewable energy continues.
Nigeria generated no electricity from nuclear power in 2025. As electricity demand continues to grow, expanding generation capacity and improving grid reliability remain key priorities alongside increasing the share of renewable energy.
