Russia Energy Profile 2024: Electricity Mix

🔥 Fossil Fuels
Fossil fuels accounted for 64.1% of Russia’s electricity mix in 2024. Natural gas led with 44.4%, coal followed at 18.6%, and other fossil fuels, including oil, contributed 1.1%.

🌍 Renewables
Renewables supplied 18.1% of Russia’s electricity. Hydropower dominated at 17.4%. Wind and solar remained limited, contributing just 0.5% and 0.2%, respectively, with growth held back by infrastructure and market focus.

⚛️ Nuclear Energy
Nuclear power made up 17.8% of electricity generation. Russia continues to maintain and expand its nuclear fleet, both domestically and through exports of reactor technology.
