South Korea Energy Profile 2024: Electricity Mix

🔥 Fossil Fuels
Fossil fuels provided 60.1% of electricity in South Korea. Coal and gas were nearly equal at 30.5% and 28.5%, respectively. Other fossil sources contributed 1.1%.

⚛️ Nuclear
Nuclear power supplied 30.2%, underscoring its key role in South Korea’s energy security and decarbonization plans.

🌍 Renewables
Renewables made up 9.7% of the mix. Solar contributed 5.2%, followed by bioenergy at 3.3%. Wind and hydro made up less than 1% each, highlighting the need for further renewable expansion.
