Spain Energy Profile 2025: Electricity Mix

Spain generated the majority of its electricity from low-carbon sources in 2025, with renewables providing 55.9% of total generation. Solar power became the country's largest electricity source at 21.8%, closely followed by wind (20.4%) and hydropower (11.4%), reflecting Spain's strong renewable energy resources.

Fossil fuels accounted for 25.4% of electricity generation, with natural gas supplying 21.6% of the country's electricity. Gas-fired power stations continue to provide flexible generation to complement the growing share of renewable energy, while coal contributed just 0.3%.

Nuclear energy supplied 18.7% of Spain's electricity, remaining an important source of reliable low-carbon power alongside the country's expanding renewable energy sector.
