UK Energy Profile 2025: Electricity Mix

The United Kingdom's electricity mix in 2025 was dominated by low-carbon sources, with renewables supplying 52% of generation. Wind power remained the backbone of the renewable sector, contributing 29.4% of the country's electricity and continuing its transformation of the British power system.

Despite the growth of renewables, natural gas remained the largest single source of electricity at 31.1%. Gas-fired power stations continue to play an important balancing role, helping maintain supply during periods of lower wind and solar output.

Nuclear energy provided 12.4% of generation, while coal contributed just 0.1%, reflecting the UK's near-complete transition away from coal-fired electricity generation.
