Hydroelectricity

Hydroelectricity is the energy generated by harnessing the power of moving water to produce electricity. Hydroelectric energy is one of the most commonly-used renewable sources of electricity.

Impoundment hydroelectric plants, the most common type on an industrial scale, create reservoirs by damming rivers. During peak electricity demand, water released from these reservoirs flows through turbines, connected to generators, producing electricity efficiently and reliability.

Impoundment hydroelectric plants offer reliable, renewable electricity generation with low operating costs and long lifespans, providing efficient and sustainable energy solutions.

The construction of dams can have a significant environmental impact on surrounding areas. The upfront costs are high and can be prohibitive. The requirement for water and suitable surrounding areas limits potential locations.
