Oil

Oil is a fossil fuel formed from ancient marine organisms. Over millions of years, pressure and heat transformed these remains into a liquid energy source, now powering much of our global economy.

Oil is extracted through drilling, often deep below land or seabed. Wells pump the oil to the surface, where it’s transported for refinement into fuels like gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel.

In refineries, crude oil is separated and processed to create various fuels. These fuels, when burned, release energy for heating, transportation, and electricity, powering homes, vehicles, and industries worldwide.

Burning oil releases carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas contributing to climate change. Oil extraction and spills can damage ecosystems, polluting water and harming wildlife.

As renewable energy grows, oil demand may decline. However, oil remains essential for certain industries, so its role will gradually shift, with new technologies focusing on cleaner, more efficient use.
